Westford

Westford has a largely suburban residential culture and like many New England towns, an active civic life. The Roudenbush Community Center and the Westford Parish Center for the Arts are two notable places for residents to take classes or see concerts and art exhibitions. Additionally, Westford is home to the J.V. Fletcher Library, The Butterfly Place, The Westford Museum and Historical Society and the MIT Haystack Observatory.

Industry in Westford is primarily focused in the high tech sector while the employment in nearby cities such as Lowell, Concord and Boston offer Westford residents a plethora of job opportunities in a variety of fields and industries. The principal highways in the area are State Routes 27 and 225 and Interstate 495, which comprises the outer belt of Boston. Commuting in and out of Westford is easy and the town’s proximity to many nearby cities much larger in size make living here convenient for those seeking peaceful living conditions without sacrificing the opportunities a major metropolis affords its residents.

The two public high schools in Westford are Westford Academy and Nashoba Valley Tech High School. Each school boasts an outstanding academic history and is recognized for higher than average national test scores, low teacher to student ratios, and a teaching community made up of well-educated instructors with strong backgrounds in their specialized fields. Out of Westford Academy’s 110 classroom teachers, 90% of them possess Masters Degrees or higher and the average class size is 23 students per instructor. Nashoba Valley Tech has a total student population of only 495 students and offers intensive academic programs combined with hands-on training to provide its graduates with the edge they need to get ahead. The school offers the widest selection of technical programs around, including Automotive, Pre-engineering, TV/Media Production, Electrical, Cosmetology, Theater Arts, Graphic Design, Construction, Banking, Marketing, Retail, Interior Design, Hotel/Restaurant Management, and Culinary Arts. With outstanding local feeder schools such as Stony Brook and Blanchard Middle Schools, and elementary schools such as Abbot, John A. Crisafulli, Rita A. Miller, Nabnasset, John Robinson, Day and Millennium, the education system in Westford is one of the finest in the state.

For those who enjoy sports, Boston is continually rated as one of the top sports towns in America. All four major professional sports leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL) are represented in addition to the many collegiate sports programs and nationally recognized academic institutions such as Boston College. With exciting sports events taking place year round at famed venues such as the Fleet Center with its original Boston Garden parquet floor or at Fenway Park with its towering Green Monster Wall, Boston is a culmination of everything that is America from sports, to culture, to national history. Westford’s proximity to Boston enables locals to experience big city life without sacrificing the peace and solitude of living in a residential community. Still, Westford is not absent of its own recreational and cultural amenities.

Nabnassett Lake is an excellent place for year round fishing and boating and recreational water sports activity during the warmer months. The lake has a beach front for sunbathers and is a fun gathering spot for family picnics and other social events. Nearby, the Nabnassett Lake Country Club features an outstanding and challenging nine-hole golf course with tree-lined fairways, deep sand bunkers, slick greens and rolling green fairways. Women’s Pro Golfer and Professional Golf Hall of Famer Pat Bradley is a native of Westford and is said to have been seen walking the country club’s fairways from time to time, playing amongst the locals.

For snow skiers, the Nashoba Valley Ski Area comes to life nearly six months out of the year and offers everything from moderately challenging downhill skiing to very challenging cross country skiing. The Westford Parks and Recreations Department is also an outstanding source of fun-filled excitement for people of all ages. From senior citizen community events and programs, to both adult and youth sports leagues, the parks in Westford are continuously filled with people from all walks of life partaking in events, meetings, competitions, discussion groups, and classes.

All in all, Westford is a remarkable place to live, work and play. So, whether you plan to retire here, are moving here to raise a family, or are simply looking to start life anew, there is no better place than Westford to put your best foot forward toward a brighter future.
